I’ve been experimenting with using laser cutters for some really intricate designs that would be a nightmare to do by hand or even with a CNC mill. Things like complex gears, precise stencils, or decorative lattices are suddenly achievable with a level of detail I never thought possible.
It's definitely a diffrent skillset than traditional methods. You have to learn about laser power settings, material compatibility, and vector design software. But the payoff in terms of complexity and speed is huge, especially if you're doing any sort of production run of smaller items.
Has anyone else found laser cutting to be a game changer for specific maker projects? I'm curious what other challenges and unexpected benefits people are encountering. Also, what materials have been most surprising for their ease or difficulty when laser cutting? I found acrylic surprisingly tricky to dial in correctly!
