I just read a really engaging case study about a school district that significantly increased participation in bike to school days using some pretty clever strategies. Instead of just announcing the day, they built a whole month around cycling, with weekly themes focusing on bike safety, maintenance, and exploring local bike routes.

What I found particularly effective was their partnership with a local bike shop. The shop offered free bike checks before the big day and even ran a workshop on basic repairs for students and parents. it seemed to demystify bike maintenance and made cycling more accessible. They also had a raffle with donated bikes and gear as prizes, wich further motivated participation.

I'm curious, has anyone seen similar accomplished initiatives in their communities? Or, what other creative approaches could schools take to encourage more students to bike to school, making it safer and more fun? I wonder if incorporating cycling education into the PE curriculum could also have a lasting impact.
