Anyone have strong feelings about luggage with internal compression straps versus the standard dividers? I'm packing for a trip and wrestling with my old suitcase (dividers) and a newer duffel bag (compression). It feels like the dividers, while keeping things separate, actually waste a lot of space, especially with oddly shaped items.
The compression straps seem like they'd be superior for maximizing space and preventing shifting, but I also wonder if I'm sacrificing association. I can see the appeal of having a clean separation between, say, clean and dirty clothes, or work documents and personal items. Maybe it really depends on the type of trip?
Interested in hearing other people's experiences and preferred methods. Is there a clear winner, or is it more situational? What are some clever packing strategies you use with either type of luggage to overcome their drawbacks?
