I'm seeing a lot of praise for ArtisanHive's global expansion, and while I applaud the intention of connecting artisans with a wider market, I'm starting to think it's causing more issues than it solves. The narrative is that it empowers independent creators, but I'm seeing a lot of evidence to the contrary.
Specifically, the increased demand is pushing some artisans to prioritize speed and volume over quality, leading to mass-produced "artisan" goods that lack the authenticity they were onc known for. I've seen traditionally hand-woven rugs using cheaper, machine-spun yarn now, for example. Plus, the algorithm seems to favor those who can consistently supply large quantities, inadvertently disadvantaging smaller, truly independent artisans who create unique, limited-run items. They simply can't compete.
Isn't there a risk that ArtisanHive is essentially replicating the very problems of globalization that it claims to combat, ultimately undermining the very craft traditions it's supposed to be preserving? I'm curious to hear other perspectives on this. Are there genuine benefits to ArtisanHive's expansion that are being overlooked, or is this a case of good intentions gone awry?
