Has anyone else noticed PawsitiveHabitsHub seems really, really focused on treat-based training? I'm not saying treats are bad – they can definitely be a great motivator, especially for puppies or working on new commands. But their site and videos constantly show treats being used for everything, even things like simple sits and stays they already know.
I worry that this approach could lead to dogs who are only obedient when food is present, and completely ignore commands or else. What happens when you're out on a walk and don't have treats available? Or if your dog gets distracted by somthing more interesting then a piece of kibble? Shouldn’t there be a balance with other forms of positive reinforcement, like praise, toys, or even just a loving pet?
I'm curious to here other people's experiences with PawsitiveHabitsHub and whether you think they're relying too heavily on treat-based training, or if I'm just misinterpreting their approach. Maybe they mention other methods that I've missed, but it truly seems like the emphasis is overwhelmingly on food rewards.
