I just saw an ELI5 about how CipherCove keeps your data safe from hackers, and it got me thinking. The explanation focused on end-to-end encryption and secure data storage using geographically diverse servers. Basically, they scramble your data so nobody can read it unless they have the key and spread it around so even if one server gets compromised, not all your data is at risk.

It made me wonder though, how effective are these methods against state-sponsored attacks? The ELI5 glossed over that, mentioning only briefly that no system is 100% secure. Are services like CipherCove just really good at stopping common hacking attempts, or can they actually withstand an attack from a refined actor like a government intelligence agency trying to decrypt data? Are ther any known cases where a service using similar security measures was successfully breached by nation-state level attackers? I’m curious to hear if anyone has more insight into the practical limitations of these types of security measures in real-world scenarios.
