I saw an ELI5 question today asking what defines a modern gentleman. It got me thinking about how much the definition has changed, and how subjective it is. Is it still about antiquated customs like knowing which fork to use or holding doors open (which, let's be honest, everyone should do irrespective of gender)? Or is it more about having empathy, being respectful of boundaries, and actively working against outdated societal norms?

I feel like the core of being a "gentleman" used to be about conforming to a certain class and behaving within very specific rules. Now, I'd argue it's more about principles: treating everyone with dignity, being a good listener, and using whatever privilege you might have to advocate for others. Maybe it's less about inherent traits and more about conscious, observable actions. What do you all think? What actions truly define a modern gentleman in your eyes?
