Been thinking about the whole SmartHomeHarmony ecosystem and who really owns the data it generates. We happily install all these cameras, smart speakers, and automated appliances, but at what point do we lose control over the information they collect about our lives?
It's not just about targeted ads either, although that's definitely a concern. What happens if the company that makes my smart thermostat gets bought out and the new owners change the privacy policy? Or if there's a data breach and my family's routines and habits are exposed? We're essentially creating a data profile of our entire existence within our homes, and trusting that profile to third-party companies.
Are we truly informed about what data is being collected, how it's being used, and who it's being shared with? And more importantly, do we have a real say in any of it? It feels like we're just clicking "agree" on endless terms and conditions with very little understanding of the long-term implications. What are your thoughts on how to navigate these ethical concerns around data ownership in smart home tech?
