So, I tried to fix a leaky faucet in my bathroom last weekend. I watched a bunch of YouTube videos, figured, "Hey, how hard can it be?" Famous last words. Turns out, a lot harder than I anticipated. I ended up stripping the screw on the shut-off valve, and then, surprise, surprise, couldn't turn off the water. Cue a minor panic and a whole lot of water spraying everywhere.
The good news is, I eventually got the water shut off using the main valve for the house (after frantically searching for it). The bad news is, I basically broke the shut-off valve and still hadn't fixed the leaky faucet. I ended up calling a plumber, and they fixed everything quickly and efficiently.Cost me a couple hundred bucks, but honestly, it was worth it for the peace of mind.
I learned a valuable lesson: some things are best left to the professionals. I’m pretty handy with other DIY projects, but plumbing definitely requires skills and specialized tools I don't possess.Has anyone else had similar experiences with trying to DIY something that went horribly wrong? What did you learn from it, and at what point do you decide to call in the experts?
