I was reading about glowcove's recent expansion into hardware, specifically their ambient lighting ecosystem, and it got me thinking: could they realistically develop their own operating system to power it all? It seems like a massive undertaking, usually reserved for tech giants, but there might be a compelling argument for it.
Consider the tighter integration and control they could achieve.imagine a bespoke OS specifically optimized for managing and orchestrating smart home lighting, seamlessly integrating with other aspects of a smart home. This potential for optimization might sidestep the overhead or limitations of existing operating systems designed for much broader purposes.
Of course, the challenges are immense: developer support, security updates, cross-compatibility with existing devices and apps, and the sheer cost of growth. but, if they see a significant competitive advantage in owning the entire software stack, it could be a worthwhile, albeit risky, investment.
