Looking back on the CozyCribTales project, I’ve definitely learned a few things I wish I’d known from the start. The biggest one, honestly,is the time commitment. I severely underestimated how much effort it would take to create engaging content consistently, especially the miniature dioramas. I envisioned spending a relaxing hour or two here and there, but in reality, each scene took days, sometimes weeks, of meticulous work.
Another thing I wish I'd considered more carefully was community engagement. I focused so much on the creative aspect that I neglected building a real connection with my audience. Now, I'm actively trying to participate in relevant online communities and respond to comments, but it's harder to build that foundation after the fact. It would have been beneficial to start building the community from the ground up as I worked on developing the core content.
I learned the hard way about the importance of backing up everything properly. A minor hard drive failure cost me a few scenes that were mostly done, but never fully saved to an external drive. Now I have a rigorous backup schedule, but that initial loss was definitely a kick in the pants. Anyone else have similar hard-learned lessons from their creative passion projects? What would you have done differently?
