If you could only master one DIY skill as a homeowner, what would it be and why? I'm torn between basic plumbing (fixing a leaky faucet or unclogging a drain without chemicals) and being proficient with drywall repair.

On one hand,a little plumbing knowlege can save you a fortune in emergency call-out fees, especially if something goes wrong on a weekend or holiday. Plus, preventative maintenance is much easier when you understand how your pipes work.

But drywall! Walls inevitably get scuffed, dinged, or even punctured. Being able to patch those holes, smooth them over, and match the paint color seems like a perpetually useful skill that would keep your home looking fresh and prevent small damages from escalating into bigger problems. What skill provides the most bang for your buck in terms of saving money, preventing further damage, and just general home upkeep?
