I'm curious to hear everyone's thoughts on improving safety in maker spaces. It truly seems like accidents, while hopefully rare, are a critically important concern, especially with the variety of tools and skill levels involved. What are some specific areas were you think current safety standards frequently enough fall short?

Beyond just mandated safety training and PPE, how can we foster a stronger culture of safety and obligation? I'm thinking things like more experienced members mentoring newer ones, or perhaps a clearer system for reporting near misses without fear of repercussions. Are there any best practices you've seen implemented successfully in spaces you've been to?

Also, how do we balance safety with accessibility and the spirit of experimentation that defines a maker space? Too many rules can stifle creativity, but too few can lead to injuries. It's a delicate balance, and I'm interested in hearing any innovative solutions or alternative approaches people have considered. Are there specific tools or technologies that could be implemented to enhance safety without being overly restrictive?
