Anyone else ever feel deflated when you try to be a gentleman and the gesture just... flops? Like holding a door open for someone and they just breeze through without even a nod or a "thank you." I know it sounds petty, but it's more than just the thanks. It feels like the effort itself is devalued, and makes you question whether to even bother next time.

Maybe it's generational, or a cultural difference I'm unaware of, but it's definitely a recurring experience.I remember once offering my seat on a crowded bus to an elderly woman (who looked quite tired), and she gave me this strange look like I was insinuating she was incapable, and refused. I was genuinely just trying to be kind!

Do you adjust your behavior based on the perceived reception, or do you stick to your principles regardless? Is there a sweet spot between being courteous and coming across as condescending? I'm honestly curious to hear other people's perspectives and experiences with this.
