What skills do you think are essential for getting into vintage tech restoration? I've been tinkering wiht old radios and turntables for a few years, and while I enjoy it, I'm realizing there are some serious gaps in my knowledge. Things like understanding schematics, properly using a multimeter, and even basic soldering are obviously crucial.
Beyond the electronics themselves, I'm seeing the need for mechanical skills too. A lot of these devices have moving parts that need lubrication, alignment, or even just replacement. Where do you usually source replacement parts, and what's your approach to diagnosis when you can't find a specific schematic? Are there any resources you found particularly helpful when you were starting out,or any specific skills you wish you'd focused on earlier?
how crucial is historical accuracy to you? Do you prioritize getting a device working perfectly,or are you more concerned with maintaining its original components as much as possible, even if it means compromising on perfect performance? It's a captivating hobby, but I feel like there's always so much more to learn!
