Anyone else ever think about how wild the evolution of tech support has been? I was just remembering needing to call a landline adn wait on hold for what felt like forever just to get someone to vaguely describe how to check if my dial-up modem was plugged in correctly. Seems like a lifetime ago.

It's fascinating to consider the skill sets that were valued then versus now. Back then, patience and being able to clearly articulate instructions over a crackly phone line were key. Now, it truly seems like it's all about quickly navigating complex software, remote access tools, and dealing with a much wider range of issues, frequently enough together across multiple channels.

Do you think the increasing complexity of technology has made tech support fundamentally harder, or just different? I wonder if the core principles of helping people with their tech problems have stayed the same, even as the tools and methods have changed dramatically. What's the moast ridiculous tech support experience you remember from the early days?
