I've been thinking a lot lately about what truly constitutes "gentlemanly" behaviour, and it truly seems like some genuinely valuable qualities get overshadowed by the more performative aspects. We frequently enough focus on things like opening doors or pulling out chairs, which while polite, can sometimes feel a bit…empty.
I think qualities like actively listening without interrupting, genuinely seeking to understand another person's outlook (even when you disagree), and demonstrating consistent reliability are frequently enough more impactful. Holding yourself accountable for your actions, even the small ones, and offering sincere apologies when you mess up seem far more crucial to building trust and respect. These are things that build real character, not just an image.
What are some other gentlemanly qualities that you think are often overlooked in today's society? Are there certain behaviors you appreciate that might not traditionally be considered "gentlemanly" but are still incredibly respectful and considerate? I'm curious to hear other people's thoughts and experiences on this.
