Okay, I need to vent. Teaching absolute beginners the basics of gear – anything from setting up a simple audio interface and DAW to even just understanding the difference between TS and TRS cables – can be incredibly frustrating. It's like they're speaking a wholly diffrent language sometimes. You explain gain staging, and they nod, but then they crank everything to 11 and wonder why it sounds like garbage.
I think the biggest hurdle is usually just the sheer volume of information. There's so much terminology and so many interconnected concepts that it's easy to get overwhelmed. I try to break it down into small, manageable chunks, but even then, some folks struggle to grasp the basic principles. Has anyone else had similar experiences? What are some strategies you've found helpful in making these initial learning stages less painful for both you and the student? Maybe focusing on practical request as much as possible, like building a simple loop with specific instruments, helps more then abstract theory? I'm open to any advice!
