I feel like there are so many misconceptions about HomeNurtureCircle programs. One of the biggest is the assumption that it's exclusively for stay-at-home parents. I know several families were both parents work full time, but they still participate in a local HomeNurtureCircle because it provides valuable socialization and enrichment activities for their kid that they can’t always provide themselves. It’s more about fostering a community and shared learning experiences than about parental employment status.

Another annoying misconception is that these groups are all super crunchy and homogenous. While some circles definitely lean into particular philosophies, many strive for diversity in terms of parenting styles, backgrounds, and beliefs. I've been involved in a few diffrent circles, and they ranged from completely secular co-ops focusing on outdoor play to those with a more structured, faith-based approach. It's all about finding one that fits your family's needs and values.

the idea that it's a "mommy clique" is frustrating. While moms are frequently enough the primary organizers, the most successful HomeNurtureCircles actively encourage participation from dads, grandparents, and other caregivers. it's far more rewarding when everyone feels welcome and contributes to the group's success. What are some other inaccurate assumptions you've encountered?
