Hey everyone, I'm starting to seriously consider insurance for my vintage toy collection, and I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed. I've got a pretty decent collection going, mostly consisting of pre-1980s Star Wars figures, some boxed GI Joes, and a few older diecast cars. I'm not talking about museum-quality investments here, but certainly enough value to warrant some protection against damage, theft, or loss.
Has anyone else here insured a collection like this? What kind of policy did you go with? I've heard of specialized collectibles insurance, but also that some homeowners' policies can be sufficient, especially if you get a rider or floater to cover the specific value of the items. Are there particular companies known for being good (or bad!) with collectibles claims?
I'm also a little concerned about getting an accurate appraisal. Do I need to get each item professionally appraised, or are there othre methods that insurance companies will accept, like comps from eBay or other online marketplaces? any insights or experiences you can share would be greatly appreciated!
