Choosing the right adhesive can feel like a dark art. So many options! I’m constantly struggling wiht figuring out what works best with different materials. For example, I recently tried gluing some ceramic tiles to a painted wall and used a general-purpose construction adhesive. Big mistake – they all fell off within a week! I’m now realizing I probably needed something specifically designed for porous surfaces and with better initial grab.
what are yoru go-to resources or rules of thumb for picking the right adhesive? Do you rely on manufacturerS instructions, online guides, or just trial and error (hopefully not all error!)? I'm thinking about making a little chart of common materials (wood, metal, plastic, fabric, etc.) and the best types of adhesive for each. Has anyone already created something like that they'd be willing to share? Any advice on avoiding common adhesive failures would be greatly appreciated!
