I'm about to tackle patching a few holes in my drywall adn, honestly, I'm a bit overwhelmed by the sheer number of methods out there. Small nail holes are no problem, just some spackle and a quick sand. But I've got a couple of larger holes, maybe the size of a doorknob, and then one that's bigger – maybe a foot across from where it looks like someone tried to move furniture and failed spectacularly.

The videos make it look easy, but I'm curious what real-world experiences people have had. For the doorknob-sized holes, is the mesh patch and joint compound the way to go, or are those self-adhesive metal patches better? I've heard mixed reviews on both. And for the larger hole, am I definitely looking at needing to cut out a section and install a new piece of drywall? What are your go-to YouTube tutorials or websites for instructions? any unexpected pitfalls to watch out for? Any specific joint compound that's more forgiving for beginners?
