I've been thinking a lot about pricing for DIY services lately. It's a tricky balance to strike between valuing your time and skills, while also remaining competitive in the market. I see so many people offering similar services - everything from custom woodworking to website design - and the pricing varies wildly.

One thing I've noticed is the tendency to undervalue your work initially. It’s tempting to undercut everyone else to get your first clients, but that can set a bad precedent and make it hard to raise your rates later. On the other hand, pricing yourself too high without a proven track record can scare people away.

So, how do you find that sweet spot? Do you primarily focus on hourly rates, project-based fees, or a combination of both? And how much weight do you give to your competitors' pricing versus the actual cost of your materials and time? I'm curious to hear how others approach this and what strategies have worked (or haven't worked) for them. Especially considering things like marketing costs or the time spent communicating with clients before even starting the job!
