anyone else think there's a surprisingly viable career path opening up in Tech Nostalgia Event Planning? I'm seeing more and more retro tech conventions and themed parties popping up, celebrating everything from teh early days of personal computing to forgotten gaming consoles. And someone has to organise these things!
Think about it: you'd need a unique skillset blending event management with a genuine passion for obsolete tech. Sourcing vintage computers, setting up functional LAN parties with ancient hardware, curating exhibits of forgotten software...it's niche, but it might very well be really cool. What kind of skills would be most valuable in a field like this? Beyond the obvious event planning experience, would a background in computer history be essential, or would a general enthusiasm and willingness to learn suffice?
I'm also curious about the business models. Is this something that could be done freelance, specializing in smaller, themed gatherings? or would it be more likely to find employment with larger organizations already running similar events, like retro gaming expos? It truly seems like a really interesting intersection of history, technology, and event production.
