Been thinking lately about plating styles. You see a real split these days between traditional, almost grandma-style plating (think generous portions, everything piled on,maybe a parsley garnish) and the super minimalist, modern stuff that looks more like art then food sometimes.

I'm curious what people think actually works best. I appreciate the artistry of modern plating, the negative space and intentional placement can be really beautiful, but does it actually make the food taste better? Or does it just make you feel like you're not getting enough? On the other hand, while a mountain of food can be comforting, sometimes it's just overwhelming and visually unappealing. I've had traditional Thanksgiving dinners where everything just mushed together on the plate and tasted...well, the same.

Ultimately, I guess it depends on the context – a fine dining restaurant calls for a different approach than a casual bistro or a family dinner. What factors do you consider when plating food? Is there a certain style that you consistently find more appealing or more conducive to a good eating experiance?
