I've been looking into insulating my attic myself, and the options are a bit overwhelming. It seems like there's a real divide between the conventional methods, like fiberglass batts, and more modern options like spray foam or even some of the newer cellulose options.

I'm curious to hear people's experiences with both. has anyone done a direct comparison, maybe insulated different sections of their house with different materials and tracked the energy savings? It seems like the initial costs are vastly different, but what about the long-term ROI? Does the ease of installation of batts outweigh the supposedly superior insulating capabilities and air sealing of spray foam, especially considering potential mold growth?

Beyond cost savings, are there other considerations? Such as, I've read about concerns regarding off-gassing from some spray foams. And what about the environmental impact of the different materials? It feels like there's a lot more to consider than just R-value. Looking for any insights or personal experience anyone can share!
