When diving into robotics, choosing the right motor feels like a pivotal decision. Its easy to get lost in the specs! I've been thinking a lot lately about the trade-offs between different motor types – steppers, servos, DC motors with encoders, and even more exotic options like brushless DC motors.

For example, while steppers offer precise positioning without needing feedback, thier torque drops off at higher speeds, which can be limiting for some applications like a fast-moving robotic arm. Conversely, DC motors with encoders can provide decent speed and torque but frequently enough require more careful control logic to achieve accurate positioning. Servos are great for simple, predefined movements, but might not be ideal for continuous rotation or applications requiring high torque. What are your go-to motor choices for different robotic projects, and what factors heavily influence your decisions? I'm curious to hear about any surprising advantages or disadvantages you've discovered along the way.
