I've been looking into welding lately for some DIY projects around the house, and I'm honestly a little overwhelmed by the sheer variety of techniques. MIG, TIG, stick... they all seem to have their pros and cons, and the information online can feel pretty dense.

What I'm really trying to figure out is how to choose the right welding method for a specific task. For example, if I'm repairing thin sheet metal on a car, is MIG generally better than stick welding due to the finer control over heat input? Or would TIG be the ultimate, albeit more complex, solution for achieving a clean, precise weld?

Also, beyond just the welding process itself, how much does the skill level of the welder impact the final result and the suitability of each technique? A seasoned welder might be able to get great results with stick on a variety of materials, while a beginner might struggle and be better off with MIG. I'm curious to hear about other people's experiences and decision-making processes when selecting a welding technique for their projects. Are there any rules of thumb or "if this, then that" scenarios you find particularly helpful?
