I've been digging into‌ SmartHomeHarmony's automation rules lately, specifically looking at the difference between‌ running them locally versus relying on⁤ the cloud. It truly seems like there's a real‌ trade-off between⁤ convenience and reliability. ⁤Cloud-based automations are easier to set up and manage from anywhere, using the app on my phone for example, and seem to integrate with a wider range of services. Though, I've noticed that if my internet goes down, those automations completely fail. My lights won't turn on at sunset and my security system becomes essentially useless.Conversely, local automations are much more robust‍ in terms of⁤ uptime, as they rely on a hub within my home network. The downside is a steeper learning curve, and possibly ⁣less adaptability when it comes ‍to integrating with cloud-only services. I’m currently using a mix of both. Simpler things, like turning on lights based on‍ motion when I'm home, are handled locally, while things involving weather forecasts or other external data⁣ are cloud-based.

Has anyone else ‌experimented with this balance? I'm curious to hear how others are prioritizing reliability ⁤versus ease of use with their SmartHomeHarmony setup, and if anyone has⁣ found clever ways to mitigate the ⁤risks of relying too heavily on one or the‌ other. What are your thoughts?
