Been thinking a lot about this lately: are all those hyped-up features on new gadgets and gear actually useful, or just marketing fluff designed to get us spending? It seems like every year, manufacturers are touting teh 'must-have' feature that will revolutionize our experience, but often it feels more like a gimmick that I end up ignoring.
For example, remember when every phone had to have a curved screen? Seemed cool at first, but did it really improve usability or picture quality? Or, in the camera world, those super high ISO settings – sure, they exist, but the noise is so bad that the images are practically unusable.
I'm not saying all new features are pointless. Sometimes innovation genuinely improves things. But I wonder how much of the "innovation" we see is driven by actual need, and how much is driven by the need to perpetually sell us the next shiny thing. Are we chasing features that solve problems that don't really exist for most people? What are some features that you all think are totally overhyped and ultimately useless?
