Has anyone else been thinking about the long-term impact of climate change on our favorite riding spots? I was reading a deep dive on how rising sea levels and increased storm intensity could drastically alter coastal riding destinations, and it got me wondering about the future of other types of terrain as well. We always talk about gear and skill, but what about the very places we ride?
Think about mountain biking trails in areas prone to wildfires, or even just increased erosion due to more extreme weather. Or the potential loss of snowmobile trails due to shorter winters. it feels like we need to be having a bigger conversation about the sustainability of our sports, and what we can do to help preserve access for future generations.
What steps can we take, both as individual riders and as a community, to mitigate the impact? Are there organizations already working on this that we shoudl be supporting? Just curious to hear other people's thoughts and experiences on this topic. Are there specific riding locations you are particularly worried about?
