Saw that ELI5 about how geofencing works with SmartHomeHarmony. It's pretty neat how it uses your phone's location to trigger actions within your home. Think about it – as you cross the boundary you’ve set up around your house (the geofence), it tells SmartHomeHarmony "Hey, user's almost home!" and it can then pre-heat the oven, turn on the lights, or unlock the door.
Essentially, your phone is constantly communicating its location (usually via GPS) to the SmartHomeHarmony app. When your phone enters or leaves that virtual fence, the app triggers a pre-programmed routine. I've found it's most useful for things like automatically adjusting the thermostat based on whether anyone's actually home. But what about security? Anyone know how SmartHomeHarmony handles the privacy aspects of constantly tracking your location, and any best practices to improve accuracy without draining your battery? Thinking of setting up more routines but worried about location accuracy and battery life.
