I keep thinking about all the old tech ending up in landfills. On one hand,it's undeniably harmful to the surroundings. but is there a case to be made for keeping some of it there, specifically for future "archaeological" purposes?

Imagine future societies trying to understand our culture through the layers of discarded iPhones, Tamagotchis, and even those old brick-sized cell phones from the 90s. Would it be a valuable record, even if it’s a toxic one? We already find so much from ancient civilizations in their waste pits. Is our digital and electronic waste our equivalent?

of course, the environmental impact is a huge concern. But perhaps there's a way to selectively preserve certain categories of obsolete tech in controlled, designated landfill areas, akin to how we preserve historical artifacts? Or am I just romanticizing the past and ignoring the very real, present-day consequences of electronic waste? What are your thoughts?
