I've recently been diving deep into the world of vintage toy prototypes, specifically from the 1970s, and the rabbit holes are astonishing. It started with a vague memory of seeing a concept drawing for a transforming robot toy, something that looked almost like a precursor to the transformers, but with a much clunkier, almost steampunk aesthetic.
What's really interesting is how much details isn't available. These things were often created in small numbers, documentation was limited, and companies weren't always focused on preservation.I've spent hours scouring online archives, contacting toy historians, and even cold-calling peopel who used to work in design departments back then. It's like detective work, piecing together fragments of information and hoping to stumble across a lead. Has anyone else hear ever gone down a similar path, trying to track down a very obscure piece of toy history? What were some of your biggest challenges?
