So, I recently attempted DIY concrete countertops. Let me tell you,the instagram pictures are deceiving. I thought, "Hey, I can save some money and get a unique look!" Fast forward a month, and I'm seriously considering just replacing the entire countertop with something… anything else.
The biggest problem was the cracking. I followed the instructions meticulously (or so I thought), even watched a dozen YouTube videos, but hairline cracks appeared almost promptly after curing. I tried patching them, thinking I could salvage it, but more just kept appearing like hydra heads. Now, rather of a sleek, modern countertop, I have a patchwork quilt of gray and darker grey.
Has anyone else run into similar issues with DIY concrete? I'm curious if there are any "secrets" or crucial steps that are often glossed over in the tutorials. Was it my concrete mix? My curing process? The blood, sweat, and tears I poured into this project are now just making me laugh (and cry) internally every time I make a sandwich. maybe I should have just stuck with laminate.
