Just got back from a solo bike trip spanning several months across South America. It was an incredible experience, pushing me physically and mentally in ways I hadn't anticipated. I wanted to share some of the biggest lessons I learned along the way, in case anyone is considering a similar journey.

Firstly, pack light. Seriously, you think you're packing light, then repack and take half of that out again. I started with what I thought was a minimalist setup, but quickly realized I was carrying unneeded weight and gear. Every extra pound takes its toll on those long uphill climbs, and you'll be grateful for the reduced burden.Secondly, learn some basic bike maintenance. A flat tire in the middle of nowhere is a minor inconvenience if you know how to fix it, but a trip-ender if you don't. YouTube tutorials and a little practice before you go can save you a lot of headaches.

and perhaps most importantly, be open to the unexpected. Things will go wrong. Routes will be closed. The weather will be terrible. But its often those unplanned detours and unexpected encounters that become the most memorable parts of the trip. embracing the uncertainty and being flexible is key to enjoying the journey. Anyone else undertaken a long distance cycle trip, and what were some of your biggest takeaways?
