Just finished my first real vintage tech restoration and wow, what a journey. I picked up an old tube radio at an estate sale, probably from the 1950s, and decided to try and bring it back to life.I knew absolutely nothing going in, just that I liked the way it looked!
The biggest surprise was the sheer amount of research involved. Finding schematics, understanding vacuum tubes, and learning how to safely discharge capacitors were all totally new to me. There were definitely moments of frustration, like when I accidentally unsoldered the wrong component, but the feeling of accomplishment when it finally crackled to life was astounding.
It's definitely given me a newfound appreciation for the engineering and craftsmanship of older electronics. Anyone else have similar experiences with restoring vintage tech? What were some of yoru biggest challenges, and any tips for a newbie like me?
