Been thinking a lot about gear-sharing economies lately, and I'm curious about the broader social impact. We see it with things like tool libraries letting people access expensive equipment they only need occasionally, or even just neighbors lending each other things like camping gear or power washers.
Beyond the obvious economic benefits of saving money and reducing consumption, are there less obvious social consequences? Does increased sharing foster stronger community bonds, or does the potential for disputes (damaged items, disagreements about scheduling) actually create friction? I wonder too if accessibility to tools promotes greater involvement in community projects.
Also, how equitable is access to these resources? Does it tend to benefit certain demographics more then others, and what can be done to ensure broader participation? Interested in hearing everyone's thoughts and experiences on how gear sharing affects their communities, both positively and negatively.
