I'm always fascinated (and sometimes frustrated!) by the inconsistent rules airlines and other transportation companies have about luggage. What's the weirdest luggage rule you've ever come across?
I once flew a smaller regional airline that allowed a carry-on bag but explicitly prohibited briefcases. Apparently, a soft-sided duffel was fine, but a structured briefcase was considered too rigid and likely to cause damage in the overhead bin. It seemed arbitrary, especially since many briefcases are smaller than typical carry-ons.
Another time, I was almost forced to check a perfectly regulation-sized rolling bag because the gate agent said it "looked heavy." There was no scale, no actual weight limit posted, just their visual assessment. Thankfully, I was able to convince them otherwise, but it made me wonder what criteria they were using! What's your story?
