I've been tinkering with electronics and building small mechanical projects as a hobby for years, and I'm starting to seriously consider making teh leap to doing this professionally.Maybe opening a small repair shop, focusing on custom builds, or even trying to get a job in product progress. The problem is scaling up and figuring out the business side of things feels daunting.

Has anyone here made a similar transition from hobbyist to professional in a field like Maker/Mechanics? What were the biggest hurdles you faced? Was it finding clients, managing finances, dealing with legal requirements like licenses and insurance, or something else entirely?

Any advice on resources, strategies, or common pitfalls to avoid would be hugely appreciated.I'm especially curious about how to assess the market demand for specific skills or services in this area and how to price my work fairly. I'm proficient with 3D printing and microcontrollers, but I’m not sure that translates directly into a viable business model.
