I'm working on a proposal for a new "MakerMechanics" certification program, aimed at bridging the gap between traditional DIY making and fundamental engineering principles. The idea is to offer a structured curriculum covering areas like basic electronics, 3D printing & CAD, microcontroller programming (Arduino, Raspberry Pi), and simple mechanics/robotics, culminating in a project-based assessment.

I'm envisioning different certification levels, ranging from a beginner-kind "Maker apprentice" to a more advanced "maker Engineer." Each level would require demonstrating competency in specific skills and completing a project showcasing those skills. Such as, the "Maker Apprentice" might involve building a remotely controlled LED system, while the "Maker Engineer" could design and build a small autonomous robot.

I'd really appreciate feedback on this concept. Specifically, what skills do you think are most crucial for a modern maker? Are there any existing programs/certifications I should be looking at for inspiration? What are some potential pitfalls or challenges I might encounter in developing and implementing such a program? I'm aiming to create something truly valuable and relevant for the maker community, so your thoughts are incredibly important to me.
