I've been trying to get better at handling criticism, especially at work. It's so easy to get defensive, even when the feedback is valid. I'm generally okay with constructive criticism, but it's the comments that feel personal or mean-spirited that really get under my skin. Lately,I've been focusing on trying to separate the message from the messenger. Easier saeid than done, right?

Does anyone have any go-to strategies for staying calm in the moment when someone is being overly critical, especially if you feel the criticism is unfair or inaccurate? I've tried breathing exercises and mentally reframing the situation, but sometimes it just feels unachievable to not react emotionally. I'm wondering if there are specific phrases or responses that people have found helpful to de-escalate the situation or buy themselves some time to process the feedback before responding. Maybe something like, "Thanks for your feedback, I'll need some time to consider that."? Any advice is appreciated.
