I've been thinking about the environmental impact of replacing luggage lately. We often focus on the materials used in new suitcases and bags, but has anyone considered the full lifecycle, especially the disposal stage? I'm curious about any Social Impact analyses that have been done on luggage disposal specifically. It truly seems like most old luggage ends up in landfills. Think about the durable, often non-biodegradable materials: plastics, metal frames, synthetic fabrics. even "eco-kind" luggage likely has components that take a long time to break down. Beyond landfill space, what are the social impacts, especially on communities near these sites? Are there disproportionate effects on certain populations?

Are there viable recycling programs for luggage? Could manufacturers design bags with end-of-life in mind, perhaps using more easily recyclable or compostable materials, or even offering take-back programs? It feels like a largely unaddressed area of environmental responsibility, and I'm wondering if anyone has insights or resources to share.
