Anyone else find themselves oddly nostalgic for old tech, even stuff that was objectively worse than what we have now? I was just thinking about dial-up internet and the agonizing wait times, but still feeling a weird sense of fondness. It got me wondering about the psychology behind tech nostalgia – why do we long for the past, especially when it comes to technology?

Is it simply the association with a simpler time in our lives? Maybe those old computers and brick phones represent a period before constant connectivity and information overload. Or perhaps it's about the novelty and excitement surrounding each technological advancement back then, compared to incremental upgrades we see today. The unique sounds of a modem connecting, the clunky but satisfying feel of a physical keyboard - these sensory experiences are hard to replicate and create strong memories.

I'd be interested to hear other people's thoughts on this. What old tech do you feel nostalgic for, and why do you think that is? Is it a genuine appreciation for the tech itself, or more about what it represents in your personal history?
