Has anyone else experienced or considered the idea of "ride as meditation," notably regarding activities like cycling, running, or even long drives? I've been thinking about how the repetitive motion, focused breathing, and immersion in the habitat can induce a similar state of mind to traditional meditation. The constant pedaling (or the hum of the engine, depending on the transport) seems to quiet the internal chatter after a while, allowing thoughts to flow more freely without getting stuck.
It's not always about achieving complete mental stillness, but more about being present in the moment and acknowledging thoughts and sensations without judgment. I've found that problems I've been wrestling with often seem to resolve themselves, or at least become clearer, after an hour or so of cycling. Is this a common experience, or am I just romanticizing my commute?
I'm curious to hear if others have had similar experiences, or if there are specific techniques you use during these activities to enhance the meditative aspect – focusing on a certain landmark in the distance, controlling breath to match cadence, repeating a mantra, etc. Also, are there any potential downsides to this approach to mindfulness? For exmaple, is it possible to become too detached from the immediate surroundings, leading to safety concerns?
