So,I've been tinkering with a DIY garage door opener setup for a while now,and it's been... temperamental.I initially thought I had it nailed, using a repurposed winch motor and a microcontroller for control, but lately it's been acting up. Sometimes it stops halfway, other times it reverses unexpectedly, and occasionally it just refuses to budge.
I've checked the wiring multiple times, and the sensors seem to be functioning correctly, registering obstructions appropriately. I'm starting to wonder if the issue is with the power supply to the motor; maybe it's not providing enough consistent juice under load. Has anyone else run into similar issues with a DIY system?
I'm thinking of adding a larger capacitor to smooth out the power delivery, or maybe even switching to a different motor altogether. Before I sink more time and money into this, I wanted to get some feedback. What are some common pitfalls to watch out for with these types of projects, especially when dealing with the mechanical strain of opening a garage door? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
