I know this is probably going to get downvoted to oblivion, but hear me out.I frequently enough see people advocating for more bike lanes and infrastructure. While I agree with improving safety for cyclists, I think we need to consider mandatory registration and licensing for adult riders.Think about it – drivers need to demonstrate competency and be held accountable for their actions with insurance. Unlicensed cyclists contribute to accidents and leave no recourse for victims.

It’s not about punishing responsible cyclists; it’s about promoting accountability and responsibility on shared roadways. A simple, affordable test could ensure riders understand traffic laws and basic safety. Perhaps a tiered system based on the type of bike (e-bikes,as an example, could require a higher certification) would be effective.

Before everyone jumps on me about income inequality, ther could be programs to subsidize licensing fees for low-income individuals, just like there are for driver's licenses in some areas. The goal isn't to exclude anyone, but to raise the standard for safety and personal responsibility on our roads. What are your thoughts? Where do you see potential problems with this idea?
