I saw an unpopular opinion floating around about the idea of being a "gentleman" being outdated in 2025, adn it got me thinking. I can definitely see where that outlook comes from. Conventional notions of chivalry, like always paying or opening doors, can feel a bit performative or even condescending in a world striving for equality. Are these acts genuine expressions of respect, or are they rooted in outdated power dynamics?
Conversely, is being considerate and respectful too everyone, irrespective of gender, realy "outdated"? Maybe the label "gentleman" brings baggage that should be discarded, but the core virtues of kindness, empathy and respect shouldn't be thrown out wiht the bathwater. I think there's a difference between outdated rituals and genuinely good behavior. What do you think? Should we redefine what it means to be a good person in 2025, or just scrap the whole "gentleman" thing entirely?
