Unpopular Take: DIY Home Security Systems Lack Adequate Protection

Alright, unpopular opinion time: I think most DIY home security systems give people a false sense of security. Sure, they might deter a casual porch pirate or package thief. But when it comes to actual, determined burglars, are a couple of window sensors and a doorbell camera really going to cut it?

My concern is the lack of professional monitoring and response. If something happens while you're at work, relying on a neighbor to see a notification and react seems risky. Plus, I wonder about the reliability of the equipment itself. How often are batteries checked? Are firmware updates consistent? I've seen forum posts about glitches causing false alarms or, worse, failing entirely when needed most.

Maybe people feel it's "good enough" and the cost savings are worth the risk, which is fair enough. But I genuinely question whether a lot of these systems are providing anything beyond a superficial layer of protection. Are we all just paying for peace of mind rather than real security? What are your thoughts?
