I've been thinking a lot lately about smart home tech, and while the convenience is undeniable, I worry about the potential for over-reliance. Are we inadvertently creating a generation of homeowners who can't function without their smart assistants and automated systems?
ItS easy to imagine scenarios where a widespread internet outage or a major system failure could leave people fully helpless in their own homes. Something as simple as turning on the lights or adjusting the thermostat could become a major struggle. We’re already seeing some reliance, like people struggling to remember phone numbers they once knew by heart because their phones store them. Is this the same thing, but applied to our homes?
Maybe I'm just being a Luddite, but I think it's worth considering the potential downsides of becoming overly reliant on technology for basic home functions. What happens when the next generation grows up never learning how to manually control things they've always automated? Is the convenience worth the risk of diminishing essential life skills and self-sufficiency?
